First meeting of WG3 Improvements in Physics Teaching – Meeting Future Global Challenges in Physics Higher Education will be held in Dublin from 20 november 2014 to 22 november 2014. Agenda and venue information will come soon.
Regency Airport Hotel http://www.regencyhotels.com/
Located on old main road from airport to city centre.
Thu in hotel
Fri & Sat in Dublin City University (DCU)
Use buses to hotel and also on to the city centre if needed.
Warning Bus stops are on LEFT side of road.
Do not take the 747 airlink bus as it goes directly to the city centre.
Bus station is adjacent to terminal 1 (Ryanair & others), behind the multi storey car park.
If you arrive at terminal 2 (Aer Lingus), this is a short walk away.
From airport to hotel
Take bus 16 to Ballinteer or 41 to Lower Abbey St (both go to city centre) and get off at Swords Road/ Griffith Downs junction. The bus stop is a short distance after the hotel and the Centra supermarket, which are all on the left side of the road. You may need to signal the driver to stop.
Paying for bus fares
Do not get a Leap card (smartcard) as it is too difficult for a short visit.
Cash; You can pay the driver cash in euro coins only. The exact fare is needed, € 2.60 from airport to hotel and € 2.35 from hotel to city centre. If you pay too much you get a receipt which is hard to get refunded.
A 5 day rambler ticket € 27.50 or a 3 day tourist ticket € 30 (includes central Dublin tourist bus) is suitable if you are an accompanying person or will be travelling around after the meeting. This can be bought from the spar shops in each terminal.
The restaurant is walking distance ~ 500m from the hotel. We go to the same restaurant each evening but there is a choice of meals.
Going to DCU on Friday & Saturday
DCU is ~ 1.2 km from the hotel but not easily accessible by bus.
See area map attached.
I will lead the party from the hotel at 9:00 on Friday and we will arrange a taxi for anyone who needs transport.
Meeting is in room S206 in the Stokes building, see the campus map.
