The University of Manchester is the largest campus-based university in the UK with more than 39,000 students and 5,500 academic and research staff. It lays claim to 25 Nobel Prize winners amongst its current and former staff and students. The School of Physics and Astronomy has research interests which cover almost all of modern physics and publishes about 200 research journal papers per annum. The School lays claim to eleven Nobel Laureates including Rutherford, Bohr, Bragg and Blackett and the most recent (2010) Andre Geim and Kostya Novoselov for their work on graphene.
